Academic Year Course


The Academic Year Course is designed for students who wish to maximize their English language learning experience. Students follow this course because they want to improve their level of English holistically (across the four skills) for work purposesfor study purposes or because they need to obtain an internationally – recognised certificate at the end of the course to gain admission into university.

The Academic Year course focuses on developing your level of English across the four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) so that you can communicate more effectively and more easily with other speakers of English. You are taught study skills and how to become an independent learner.

How is the Academic Year course structured?
You may follow the Academic Year Course either for one semester or two semesters, totaling six or nine months respectively. Course start dates are either in January or September (for the 6 month course) or in September (for the 9 month course).

As an Academic Year student, you follow 10 lessons per week of 120 minutes each in a class of maximum 15 students.

During the last three months of the Academic Year course you may:

choose to transfer to one of the BII-The British International Institute’s exam preparation courses (IELTS, TOEFL  iBT or one of the Cambridge Main Suite of examinations), provided you have achieved a B1 (Common European Framework reference) Pre-Intermediate level of English, or

transfer to a General English course appropriate to your level

To join this course you must be 18 years and over. The course is available from Beginner (A1 Common European Framework Reference) to Advanced level (C2 Common European Framework Reference). Our Academic staff asks you to sit for a short test on your first day at school to ensure that you are at the right language level. You may also fill in our online placement test (which must be submitted at least 7 days before you start your course).

Prices start from $3600 for 36 weeks, course only. 

While following your Academic Year, examination preparation or General English language courses, you can continue to improve your English through self-study by accessing our BII e-Learning programme from the time you enroll until three months after you finish your course.
